The accompanying study guide just went back over what was explained extensively in the video. Watched the weekly one hour videos entailed most of the study. I've never had scripture presented in this manner and it was extremely eye-opening! I will say, that this is a Bible study that is heavily video-based. Biblical truth Im not looking for fluff, but in depth content and insight into Gods Word. Vastly different from the Western way in which we approach reading the Bible (form versus function, what this scripture shows me versus what does it teach me about God, choosing to look at the details of how versus Why is this in the Bible, etc). Novem0 0 How Do I Choose A Womens Bible Study Job: A Story of Unlikely Joy Bible Study by Lisa Harper Here are some of my non-negotiables of what Im looking for in a womens Bible study. This book tries to undo all of our western ways of learning and teach and guide us into looking at the pages of the Bible through a Middle Eastern lens, and through a first century lens. I've learned Hebrew words (yeshiva, mishpat, tzedekah, etc), the meaning of phrases like take my yoke (not a physical device for oxen, instead, a rabbi's teaching or way of learning) and so many other things. We learned so much about first century Jews, especially women, and the settings and context for so many of Jesus's interactions with women from the pages of Scripture. ![]() But I wouldn't let that keep you from this!Ī totally different type of Bible study that our ladies group at church embarked on this fall. However, the book would be difficult to read without the extra context of the videos and even then, it doesn't really correspond, making it easier to listen and not take notes until later. ![]() The videos that accompany the reading are absolutely worth 5 stars. I have to almost review the video class and the book separately. I have been recommending this "feast" to everyone I know! It has made a shift in my approach to scripture instead of thinking about what does this passage teach me about me, I am learning to view it as what it teaches me about God first, because the Bible is ultimately God's story about who he is and what he has done. Throughout the videos, she often asks "Who loves Jesus right now?" And you will find yourself adamantly yelling at the screen, "Me! I love Jesus right now!" She details how Jesus restored justice and righteousness to women in the 1st century world and I cannot stop marveling at all the little details I now get to tuck in to my previous Bible knowledge. It added such a significant layer of depth that I have been missing since I am lacking in understanding of Jewish culture, being an American Christian. After going through this study, I am absolutely in the 'yes' camp. I have heard it debated for many, many years about whether or not we need to factor culture into our reading of the Bible. You will be challenged to prepare your heart, like the holy of holies, to become a home for His love and glory - a dwelling place for the Most High God.The content in this book, or as our presenter/author calls it, "a feast," was so powerful and perspective shifting.
